Very graphic, but does it actually work. The answer is NO, I am still going to smoke, there are lots and lots of other things that can kill you, including what you eat.

Far better than most of the government ads, which tend to deliver anti-smoking messages alongside standard visuals of people smoking, which makes smokers think, ooh, there’s someone smoking, now I want one too.

Smokers – just think about it for a minute :It’s almost impossible to smoke without affecting/harming/KILLING others around you (and AROUND you means especially your family, friends, classmates, workmates,…). 53000 nonsmokers DIE EVERY YEAR from secondhand smoke – your smoke. If you’re alone and smoke – you’re just a fool. If you are NOT alone and smoke – you might become a MURDERER.
Sounds hard, I know, but it’s nothing but the truth.

I think your work is great! What smoker and non smoker sees is two deferent pictures. It’s different mind set. I know.I was smoker for 10 years and for the past 5 I’m cigarette free.Wouldn’t change it for nothing. But quiting was the most challenging thing what I did for myself.
I truly hope that your work will make more people cigarette free.

All of these advertisements are supposed to be shocking or an appeal to emotions the problem is that cigarettes are extremely addictive and no one ever talks about how smokers are drug addicts and need extensive long term change in behaviour to stop smoking.

I used to smoke, and the art in this is really cool, but enough is enough. Its crap my friends have to leave the bar to smoke. Its a bar idiots. Quit taking the freedom of consenting adults away. Anyone can make a non-smoking establishment, we don’t need laws making it illegal. If people wanted smoke free bars, the others would have died out. We do still live in America, right?

  • Silky

They are really creative, but smoking is a choice and if someone is adult is absolutely free to choose. Eventually tobacco is a legal good and every country collects money because of high taxation.
Stop killing us with genetic changed food, nuclear tests, environmental pollution, wars……
    Do you need more?

These designs are all wonderfully created and carry out clearly the message of the dangers in smoking. I wish these ads should be placed in as many different places as possible (all over the world) where most people hang around, especially the younger ones who could see them so often that they will all be reminded and be more aware of what they are getting into. I LIKE ALL the designs BUT as you asked what my favorite is, that would be the one with the hand with the cigarette having the shadow of a gun.

Thanks for having this website. More power to your anti-smoking advocacy! I am with you 101%!

I made my mom look at these. She’s 58 and has been a smoker since her teen years. Even smoking throughout all 3 of her pregnancies. That’s one of my missions in life, try to get her to quit. She’s never even attempted.

Anyhow, good ads, very meaningful. Some of them really hit home.

Just wanted to add that while I were smoking I hated seeing this kind of ads. I ignored them on purpose and got irritated every time my eyes stuck on it and got mad on friends who emailed me them. So, I don’t expect these ads help smokers to quit… if it only could keep our children out this thing.

  • Moy Hernandez
    August 11th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

I really like the images. However smoking still remains a personal choice. Just like over eating, speeding or deciding to take someone else life is an individual choice. Addiction or not, you can stop smoking or even better never start! Plenty of positive knowledge out there. Stop playing victim, and take control of your life.

  • Annie
    August 28th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

A lot of people are saying “what about…obesity/car fumes/etc.” Yes, those issues should be raised too, but that doesn’t mean that smoking shouldn’t be brought simply because those issues are not. Those dangers have nothing to do with whether or not smoking is.

There were a lot of good ads; “smokers make poor swimmers”, and “you might as well” were well done. Eating a plate of ash and butts sounds pretty disgusting. There were some bad ads at the end though, the “first thing that comes to your head” ads.

My parents have both smoked since they were teenagers, and I’ve been bringing home as much anti-smoking information as I could, as far back as I can recall. My dad had a heart attack my senior year of high school. My mother, sister, and myself were at home when we found out that he had a heart attack in Canada on a fishing trip where he had to be air lifted. We nearly lost him four times and he ended up with a defibrillator placed above his heart to keep it at the correct pace. It’s been four years since this incident and they still have not quit. I hope that this page changes their mind. Thank you so much for posting this!

Some good visuals. I’m doing a scrapbook for my son diarying the kule bits of his life, inspirationals, etc, but my husband smokes and I know that increase the chance of my son doing the same as a teenager and I am determined to shake this by being proactive with some visuals. I’ve taken the one “Smoking Kills …” with the hands loading a gun with cigarettes, and 12 likely consequences of smoking – ‘major cause of stroke’, etc. Thank you.

I’ve just quit smoking and I feel really stupid for having done it for so long. It’s hard to convince a smoker with ad campaigns, they tend to not want to face the ugly facts, it’s much easire to pretend it’s just a risk they take with their health, but we all now know it’s a certainty. For those smokers that say “you’ll have to die of something”, obviouly, but that doesn’t mean you’ll throw yourself under a bus, or eat poison, does it? That’s what we do when we smoke, we kill ourselves..slowly…

These advertisements have a great impact on human being. If only the government would take action and post these ads, then, I believe, it would lessen the amount of people who’s smoking. And believe me, I think, these adds are more effective than that of the usual ads that you’d se on the build-boards etc…

Images are great, but I have found that the best way to get someone to quit is to show them the economic impact to their own pockets. Ie. The average carton of coffin nails is $43. That’s half an average electric bill for the month. I’ve survived on $100/mo for food, a carton of cigs would be nearly half that. A friend of mine quit when she realized that if she did, she would be able to afford a new car payment. I think statistics like the average cost per carton of cigs/average cartons smoked per person per month, compared to the average cost of food for a month, average car payment, average electric bill, average cost of treatment for cancer and cost of a funeral should be published. My boyfriend is constantly having to give money to his ex in order for his daughter to have a roof over her head and heating/food, yet his ex can afford her cigs. The economic effect of cigs on a household needs to be as broadly discussed as the health effects, because people like her don’t seem to care about their health or the health of their children, but maybe they might care about their pockets, if only such statistics were made known.

Thank you for making it so graphic. I quit 3 months ago, having difficult moments sometimes, but love not smoking at the same time.

Just do not do it (contrary to: Nike… just do it)

Thank you for putting these powerful images together. I am a former smoker, and can not believe I was EVER that stupid.. I am going to sit my 12 year old in front of the computer right after I submit this. Keep up the good work. Tne models posing and the babies suffocating in the bags are so disturbing. Seeing a woman smoke pregnant literally makes me want to committ murder. They don’t deserve the joy of parenthood. Not the best way to start out the selfless existance parenthood requires….

Somewhat pathetically, I think the ads appealing to people’s vanity are probably the most effective. To a lesser extent, kids’ health.

Smoking is dangerous to your health. That’s what mom told me so I’d never smoke since birth. I am now 48 years old and still healthy. I’m proud to say that I have healthy living. No smoke. No alcoholic beverages. Now, I am on a weight loss menus program at http://www.fastestwayweightloss.com/

    Thank You!

I’ve just quit smoking and I feel really stupid for having done it for so long. It’s hard to convince a smoker with ad campaigns, they tend to not want to face the ugly facts, it’s much easire to pretend it’s just a risk they take with their health, but we all

I love how people can spread HATE if it is something that seems GOOD. However the fact is WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. Surely second hand smoke sucks but many measures have been taken to eliminate that. I’m not a chain smoker but I do enjoy a cigerette after a few beers. What should be considered is that these ad campaigns are raking in TONS of cash and all they are selling is more FEAR and HATE. Quite possibly the two most dangerous things that us living folks get exposed to.

All scare tactics without a shred of legitimate scientific evidence to support such wild imaginings. Alcoholism kills too, yet no one sees fit to launch a witch hunt against drinkers. Could it be because those responsible for attacking smokers are rummies?

    February 28th, 2011 at 8:52 am

Yes smoking is a choice, but as someone who has lost four family members to cigarettes, and almost lost a fifth, I have to say the choice shouldn’t be there. Crack is illegal, but it only harms the person doing it. Why should tobacco be legal, when it kills even those who aren’t partaking of it? I almost died of secondhand smoke when I was FOUR, just because my grandma wanted to have a smoke, and no one knew I had a cold yet. I got pneumonia because of that simple act, and was put on a breathing machine. To all you smokers; Who are you killing? Your spouse? Your child? Your unborn little bundle of joy? Your dear old great grandma? Think before you act, because you aren’t only affecting yourself. You’re smoking other people’s lives away too…
