brand

There are those few famous brand logos that everyone recognizes with a glance at the product; shoes, burgers, chocolate and cars. Some of the iconic logo’s have a unique story behind them based on a founder’s tales, the area in which the company was formed or just a fun idea that was a strong driving force behind the creation of a product. A closer look at some famous brands reveals interesting tales that allow customers to further connect with their suppliers.

Apple Inc.

The international brand, Apple Inc. is known for its half-eaten apple logo which can be found on all their electronic products. To think that such a massive cult-like brand has something as common as an apple as their logo is impressive. The story behind its creation has two parts; equally interesting. The logo refers in an intellectual way to the apple in Isaac Newton’s discovery, symbolically saying that their product can be the vessel of discoveries. The other reason behind the design is in tribute to the famous father of computers, Alan M.Turing, who died by ingesting a poisoned apple.

Zalando

The shoe company Zalando, with a conclusive range of shoes primarily aimed at women, has a logo that can only be described as a stiletto-heel imprint. They produced a clever, artistic clip that romanticizes the journey the stiletto heel imprint took before finally finding a place as the Zalando Logo. It shows an orange heel imprint blown by the wind where it joins a bird before falling off and finding a place among apples in an apple tree. The wind carries it further to its rightful place as the logo for the famous shoe company; finding its way home. It is a beautiful tale that allows you to connect emotionally with the shoe company.

Toblerone

Chocolate has always been a favorite treat for many people, addictive in some cases due to its unique taste and melt-in-your-mouth satisfaction. Many people have had the delicious chocolate made by the Toblerone Company, but not many people know about the hidden bear in its logo. Upon closer inspection of the logo, one can see the body of a bear up on its hind legs. The reason for the addition of the bear is due to where the company was founded; in what is known as the City of Bears in Switzerland. They adopted the bear image as a sign of respect to their origins.

Google

A little known fact about the international sensation Google has become is that their company was first called “Backrub”. Only when they started to create a search engine did they decide upon a different name. The interesting thing is that Ruth Kedar (designer of the logo) and the company didn’t decide on the name “Google”. They initially wanted to name it “Googol”, which is the word for one with a hundred zeros behind it. When the name was registered, they saw that it was misspelled as “Google” and they decided to keep it ever since.
