Starting with an idea her work is an expression of what she finds elegant and beautiful in her world, Sydney-based artist Niharika Hokku combines her interests in painting and pottery to create mesmerizing illustrations on ceramics inspired by her personal observations of nature and its beauty.
Growing up and spending most of her formative years in India, Hokku had been surrounded by a rich culture of ceramics used in daily life. Taking the ancient art into the modern context, Hokku applies beautiful, ethereal motifs of clouds, dandelions and fishes, among others, onto her ceramic creations. Ceramics itself is a natural product from earth and painting itself is the product of beauty.Together, they are nature and beauty in one.
