Robin Schwartz’s photographs are drawn from real journeys undertaken with his daughter, Amelia. He is driven to depict relationships with animals but the photographs are not documents; they are evidence of the invented worlds that we explore and the fables we enact together. Photography gives us the opportunity to access our dreams, to discover the extraordinary.

Animals and interspecies relationships have always been an important part of his work. Animals in his photographs are not represented as beastly or noble, or as props to illustrate human life but as part of his everyday world.

His daughter and Robin Schwartz share an affinity with the animal kingdom and they play out our fantasies and explore our eccentricities by creating a cultural space where animals not only co-exist with humans, but also interact as full partners. The animals in the photographs are living creatures, participants in the dramas that the photographs capture. The world that his daughter and he explore is one where the line between human and animal overlaps or is blurred, where animals are part of their world and humans are part of theirs.

Does the mere desire to own a ridiculously high-performance and stupendously expensive supercar automatically make its prospective owner a little selfish? Not necessarily, but if said supercar has just one seat, a case could certainly be made that its megalomaniacal owner simply doesn’t want to share the experience with his friends…

For such an owner, Lamborghini has presented the Egoista Concept – perhaps fittingly, the car was unveiled at a private 50th birthday party that the automaker seems to have thrown for itself. From what we can glean without any official announcement from Lamborghini to go by, the Egoista Concept has room for a single occupant, is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine and boasts styling said to be inspired by an Apache helicopter.

Peter Menzel is a freelance photojournalist known for his coverage of international feature stories on science and the environment. His award-winning photographs have been published in GEO, Stern, Le Figaro, Der Speigel, Paris Match, Focus, Muy Interesante, El Pais, National Geographic, Smithsonian, the New York Times Magazine, and Time. He has received a number of World Press and Picture of the Year awards.

Menzel and D’Aluisio’s book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats (Material World Books, Ten Speed Press, 2005)—is another around-the-world exploration of average daily life, this time focusing on food in 24 countries. The authors detail each family’s weekly food purchases and the total cost, and use thought-provoking interviews. The centerpiece of each chapter is a portrait of the entire family surrounded by a week’s worth of groceries. The couple won the coveted James Beard Best Book Award in 2006 for Hungry Planet, and in 2005 received Book of the Year for the volume from the Harry Chapin World Hunger Media Foundation.

Art enriches the life of people, it opens new views, dimensions and emotions. Marta Klonowska’s passion is sculpture. He creates installations, which should lead the audience into a new universe. His animal figures are part of historical paintings, where they play a secondary role to the sitters.

In his art the animals perform as the principal actor. Animals are difficult to understand and it is difficult to communicate with them. His Shattered Glass Animals open therefore a new reality, which is different from ours. The sitters in the painting, the animals and the audience of his art perform in a kind of theatrical stage, where the different levels become indistinct. This clash of realities should make us think about the uncertainties of life.

Handing a business card over is a crucial transaction and says a lot about you and your company so getting a right the first time is important and this is why a lot of businesses fail to impress at the first hurdle. Get the branding right and the business will come flooding in that is what the professionals say and with companies losing contracts to their colourful competitors daily branding seems to be an integral part of success.

A badly designed business card can do more harm than good to a company and can create a disastrous impression of an otherwise reputable business. Picture the scene, leave a vital business meeting and hand your business card over to a client who then takes one look at the poor quality card and crudely designed logo and flips it into the bin on the way out. Money down the drain for your business, the client goes away with an altogether un- memorable experience of your company and the contract is lost. This may seem farfetched but it’s a scene that happens all too often when businesses don’t take enough time to think outside the box and come up with eye catching stationery colours and witty slogans which stand the test of time.

To many companies the idea of spending too much cash on business cards might seem daunting but with instantprint.co.uk business cards services available online providing a 24 hour service and specialist designers who can create the perfect cards at cut prices it’s no longer the domain of the big business hitters to hand out impressive business cards at crucial pitch meetings. Keep the message simple and make a statement with your design ensuring the style is relevant to your audience. Don’t overload the recipient with a riot of colours and information but get the message across loud and clear.

A whole new generation of eco-minded designers has emerged from the small European nation of Romania, which is currently showcasing its very first zero energy modular home concept – Soleta ZeroEnergy One. On display outside the United States Embassy in Bucharest, the tiny home is a prototype developed by the Justin Capra Foundation for Invention and Sustainable Technologies (FITS). This lovely dwelling is powered by clean energy and it can even be remote-controlled by a smartphone!

Given its versatile and affordable design, the Soleta zeroEnergy One can be used as a tiny home, an office, or as a vacation home. It is constructed of all natural materials sourced locally, including glue laminated wood for the structure and wood shingles for the roof. Instead of solid walls, FITS used insulated glass to create a distinct relationship between nature and the interior while also providing natural light and ventilation. Additional ventilation is “forced” in and coupled with a heat recovery system.

Working in graphic design can be challenging – tight deadlines combined with sometimes difficult clients can put huge amounts of pressure on you and your team. Undoubtedly every graphic designer does what they can to keep their client happy, but sometimes projects just don’t go to plan.

Whether you work from home as a sole trader or run an established design agency, it’s important to protect against mistakes that could not only cause financial problems for your business, but for your client’s too.

Protecting your services

In providing your clients with creative, you are providing them with a service – and they expect this to be of a high standard. If you were to make a mistake in creative supplied to a client, or were otherwise negligent in providing your services, your client could suffer a financial loss as a result. In these situations, it’s likely your client will seek compensation from you to cover their losses.

Professional indemnity insurance is designed to cover these kinds of scenarios. It covers against the costs of defending your business against allegations of negligence, mistakes or errors in work you have supplied to your client. In the event your claim is defended unsuccessfully, professional indemnity insurance can cover the compensation payments to your client. We recommend selecting an insurance provider specialising in cover for consultants such as Markel, visit them here.

Copyright infringement is one particular area that sees a lot of disputes between graphic designers and their clients. When working on projects, particularly large ones, acquiring the correct licenses for media, such as photographs for a website or brochure, can be a job in itself. Claims have been brought when the designer has unintentionally failed to acquire the correct license for using the photograph commercially. In certain cases, the client receives a letter from the photographer’s (or a stock photography website’s) solicitor alleging the copyright infringement and requesting payment and compensation. Ultimately the graphic designer is to blame (even in instances where the client has signed off on the work) and as a result they have to compensate both their client and the photographer/stock photography website. Professional indemnity insurance would cover against such a situation.

If you arrange print jobs and specifications for your client, this can be another area where your business may be exposed. In one particular claim, a graphic designer was hired by a retailer to create a specification for labels that would attach to Christmas trees. Unfortunately, due to the graphic designer’s negligence, the labels didn’t stand the test of time. The ink ran on them, rendering them useless, and the retailer brought a claim against the graphic designer. Without professional indemnity insurance, the graphic designer would have had to pay thousands of pounds in solicitors’ fees and compensation out of their own pocket.

Business interruption cover

While professional indemnity insurance can cover your business if you make a mistake in your work, how do you cover your business against things that are outside of your control?
We all know that life can sometimes throw a curveball in the way of floods, fires and other damage that makes things that little bit more difficult. As a business owner it can cause a huge financial headache due to the interruption and possible loss of business because of this. Business interruption cover means that should your usual work premises be unusable (for example, as a result of flood or fire damage) you will be covered for the loss of income or the additional costs in running your business, such as renting a temporary office or hiring extra staff to ensure work is completed on time.

Public liability

The ‘blame and claim’ culture has forced many businesses to think carefully about their liabilities to clients and members of the public who are on their property. Public and product liability insurance (also known as general liability insurance) can cover you for damage you cause to third party property, or injury you cause to a member of the public (including your clients). This could include, for example, if you knocked your client’s expensive laptop on the floor during a meeting, or if a client were to trip over a wire and injure themselves while visiting your office. Even if you are home-based and you rarely have clients come to visit, you run the risk of damaging their office when you visit them or breaking loaned equipment, so it’s important to consider taking out public and products liability insurance.
