Have you ever tried to get your cat to stop doing something you didn\u2019t want them to do? Then you probably know the trials and tribulations of one supermarket that has a cat problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2778 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-2.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brockley, London is where you\u2019ll find a pesky cat who refuses to go away. The ginger cat took up residence last year in a local branch of the Sainsbury\u2019s supermarket, and is determined to stay. Shoppers soon began posting photos of the stubborn cat sitting on shelves.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2761 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-3.png\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-3\" width=\"914\" height=\"914\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cat quickly became a local celebrity, and attracted shoppers who just wanted to see the feline up close. Twitter users would say that the workers would chase the cat out, and then the cat would just return. The cat even got his own social media hashtag &#8211; #brockleycat. Most of the pictures featured the cat hanging on the shelves of the store. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2762 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-4.png\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-4\" width=\"702\" height=\"902\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Customers love the cat, who comes from the house next door. They post sightings on Facebook pages, and are always up for getting the cat a friendly pet. The unnamed feline appears to enjoy the attention, despite his sour face. \u201cEveryone was stopping to give him a tickle,\u201d one shopper reported on the local FB neighborhood page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2766 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-7.png\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-7\" width=\"702\" height=\"715\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The store security decided to remove the cat because of the food safety regulations but the cat paid no mind to their objections and clearly presented himself as a force to be reckoned with, returning again and again. He clearly has found his second home and it\u2019s this store. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2780 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-19.png\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-19\" width=\"702\" height=\"636\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like the cat you may have at home, each time he was removed from the store, he came right back in, according to reports. One Twitter user said he \u201csauntered straight back in,\u201d which sounds about right, because cats do know how to saunter. Brockley Cat wouldn\u2019t stay away from the store for very long, though, because before too long, he was back. His return was heralded on social media by the shoppers, who shared images of his return. One shopper, Helen Galt, wrote \u201cSpot the cat\u201d with her image of the persistant feline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-386\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-9-768x1024-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-9-768x1024-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-9-768x1024-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-9-768x1024-1-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brockley Cat\u2019s fans were thrilled to have him back, and the Facebook posts about him crowned him as the \u201cstar of Brockley.\u201d He started being referenced as Grumpy Cat, based on the popular social media star of the same name, since the two shared grumpy faces. He could even be a local attraction for tourists to Brockley, the Facebook posts suggested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2765 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-7.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-7\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the cat was making such a stir, the security staff was more on-alert. However, the feline would just simply go out of reach, climbing or jumping to higher spots in the store. One photo showed him glowering at shoppers and security from atop the Sainsbury\u2019s freezer. Like your own cat, he knows how to stay just within..then out&#8230;of reach. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2777 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-18.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some shoppers or community residents were concerned about the kitty, commenting that it was \u201coutside looking really confused\u201d when the store was closed for Christmas. However, another commenter identified the mysterious feline and shared why he was so stuck on the store. <\/span><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2773 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-14.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-14\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cat\u2019s identity was revealed as \u201cOlly Oliver,\u201d and he was from the house next door to the supermarket, according to local resident Lucy Thompson. \u201cHe\u2019s in here every day, all the time.\u201d The store confirmed her statement, saying \u201cThe staff like him, but he is a health and safety risk.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-388\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-11-768x1024-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-11-768x1024-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-11-768x1024-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/cat-supermarket-11-768x1024-1-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cat fans and attention finally attracted his owner\u2019s notice. Adam Oliver stated that Brockley Cat belonged to him. Adam Oliver is marked as a \u201cLSE behavioral economist\u201d and \u201cjournal editor\u201d on his Twitter profile. He also refers to himself as a \u201ckeeper of animals,\u201d which is ironic, because the cat isn\u2019t kept. He also let people know that the cat definitely isn\u2019t lost and isn\u2019t a stray, just a feline that loves the Sainsbury\u2019s store. He shared on Twitter that he the staff has been instructed to remove Olly is he\u2019s too bothersome, saying \u201cthrow him out if too pesky.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2771 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-12.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-12\" width=\"702\" height=\"759\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It turns out, however, that Olly isn\u2019t even alone in the home. He has a brother, Stilton, who doesn\u2019t share Olly\u2019s fondness of roaming over to the store. Oliver says he got Olly when the feline was six weeks old. Oliver said, \u201cI don\u2019t think he can fit any other shops in his schedule.\u201d He also pointed out that Olly isn\u2019t grumpy, it\u2019s just how his face \u201clooks.\u201d Anyone can see that the cat loves people despite his grumpy appearance, that\u2019s for sure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2774 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-15.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-15\" width=\"702\" height=\"936\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olly received attention not only from local residents, but also a major publication. The Time Out London magazine crowned the kitty \u201canimal of the week,\u201d largely due to his hijinks and undetermined nature. His attention didn\u2019t stop there, either, as Olly became an online celeb. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2767 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thedesigninspiration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/11\/cat-supermarket-8.jpg\" alt=\"cat-supermarket-8\" width=\"882\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those who want to keep up on Olly\u2019s obsession with Sainsbury\u2019s, there\u2019s a Twitter feed for the cat at the handle @BrockleyCat. The feed also lets his public know what goes on when he\u2019s not in the store, such daily cat naps and spending time with Stilton. His fans have to be told not to feed him, and he can\u2019t go to the store without getting petted by shoppers.
