There are many forms of street art out there, but those that create optical illusions or that can only be viewed from a certain angle or distance seem to inspire the most delight and surprise. Steps are one of the most daring canvases for street artists, perfect for abstract decorations as well as for realistic portraits that are only visible from afar.

Here’s a beautiful collection of painted steps from around the world. Many of these stair art pieces were the result of community efforts. This post is all about street artists and regular people who have decorated something that most of us probably wouldn’t think of decorating – public outdoor steps.
