Aviator’s Villa is a project developed by the New York City-based studio Urban Office Architecture for a retired pilot. This loft-life residence is located near a lake in Duchess County, New York, USA and is organized as an analogical continuum of disassembled flight components.

The Aviator’s villa is an exploration of the idea of “gravity” and its representation as a concept made into space. The house appears as a static reproduction of the dynamics of flight, as well as a depiction of a “supported” ground. Generally conceived as two main spaces which are connected via a structural stair core, the house is set in an unidentified field, whose margins are a parallel to the unobstructed skies. A series of intermediary spaces expand on the concept of “suspension” as they connect with the outdoors both visually and physically. The bare interiors are a reminder of the essential quality of the space, that of functionality and daring.
