UK-based artist Tom Baker becomes known for his unusual hobby. He creates detailed snowy scenes on window panes using just snow spray and a dry paintbrush. People enjoys his work so much that he is soon flooded with commissions, first from his friends, but then a few organizations reached out as well asking him to decorate their windows for the winter holidays.
Baker’s most inspired work to date is a Snow Window he created for The Royal Berkshire Hospital children’s ward, UK.
Tom Baker, 36, from Sandhurst, Berkshire, came up with the idea when he sprayed an entire window and grabbed a brush to draw a wintry scene in the white spray .
He can create the pictures from the top of his head but sometimes uses sketches to help give him ideas.
His festive dioramas include villagey scenes in which Santa and his reindeer soar through the sky.
He uses his dry brush to pick out small details. The detail takes plenty of time with Tom creating different layers with the spray and then removing parts to create silhouettes.
Tom mainly creates village landscapes with cottages and many hark back to olden times with horse and carts as well as vintage cars.
In this artwork Father Christmas flies over a snowy street while some villagers stare at the sight of his sleigh and reindeer.
Tom admits most of the images come from the top of his head: “A lot of the time people just want me to do whatever I fancy.”
He found his calling after his partner Keri Ackling, 38, encouraged him to do something “more creative” than simply spraying dots on the window with snow spray.
He has now set up a business called Snow Windows and has fielded requests from across the country asking him to add some Christmas spirit with his unusual technique.
Tom’s life and business partner Keri still can’t believe how popular Tom’s technique has become. She wrote on their Facebook page: “I knew Tom was talented but really had no understanding of the impact his windows would have on people.”
