Road of Death
In Bolivia, residents are familiar with the Road of Death. This dangerous road is 70 kilometers long and sits at the edge of a 3,600 meter drop. With sharp turns, narrow passages, and foggy weather, this road surely is one that can cause death.
Road to Yakutsk
The Siberian road to Yukutsk in Russia is known for its unpaved surfaces and dangerous conditions. When it rains, people can be stuck for hours because of the mud.
Georgian Military Road
The Georgian Military road in Russia was built in 1799 and finished in 1863 and caused conflict between mountaineers and the military. The road is 220 kilometers long and almost always surrounded in bad conditions.

The Guoliang Tunnel in China is one of the scariest and most dangerous roads in the world. Cut into a mountain, you will drive through the tunnel hoping to make it out alive.
Taroko Gorge Road
You can find the Taroko Gorge road in Taiwan. It offers a beautiful view of the countryside and its mountains, but it is extremely dangerous. Located on the side of a mountain, cars have to make sharp turns and try to stay away from the edge.
Pasubio
The Italian road, Pasubio, is no longer a road due to its immense danger. Instead, it has been turned into a hiking and biking trail for whoever is brave enough to venture along it.
Grimsel Pass
Located in Switzerland, the Grimsel Pass isn’t only dangerous, it’s considered to be insane. Drivers along this road must stay well beneath the speed limit and be extra cautious.
Saint Gothard Pass
Switzerland is home to yet another dangerous road. If you decide to take a chance and drive along it, make sure you say goodbye to your family and loved ones before doing so.
Splugen Pass
The Splugen Pass is located in Italy just between the Rhaaetian and Lepontine Alps. While it doesn’t have a large drop off, it is extremely winding.
Lysebotn Road
If you aren’t afraid of heights or long tunnels, then Lysebotn Road in Norway may be a great adventure for you. The most dangerous part of this road is the 1.1 kilometer long tunnel with 27 switchbacks hidden inside.
Los Caracles Pass
Between Chile and Argentina, you can find this extremely steep road along a mountain pass. There are many turns and twists you’ll have to watch out for when driving along this road.
Skippers Canyon Road
This extremely narrow road makes it impossible to have a relaxing drive in New Zealand. It does offer some pretty breathtaking views, though.
Sichuan-Tibet Highway
You don’t want to be caught on this highway between Tibet and Chengdu unprepared. It requires a good mental headspace to drive along this road. Just make sure to watch out for avalanches and landslides.
Pan American Highway
This road in Costa Rica is also known as the Hill of Death. There are dangerous potholes that can take your car out over the steep curves of this road.
Highway 21
Highway 21 is located in the United States and is the cause for 31 deaths since 1991. The reason this highway is so dangerous is because it floods constantly, leaving people stuck and in danger.
Route 431
Another highway in the US between Seale and Eufaula, Alabama made the list. People call it “Highway to Hell” because of how many accidents have claimed lives on the highway. The worst accident was when a bus of 60 children crashed.
State Route 138
This California highway has claimed the lives of 56 people in just five years. It is 38 miles long and most of it doesn’t have a guardrail where there is a steep, 50-foot cliff.
Route 6
California seems to have a lot of dangerous highways. Route 6 is known as the “Suicide Six.” The narrow lanes and a certain three mile stretch on the highway are the most dangerous, so be careful and aware when driving along this dangerous road.
Route 6 in Utah
Another Route 6 has made the list in America. This time it’s in Utah between Spanish Fork and Price. It winds through mountainous terrain and has claimed multiple lives.
Halsema Highway
This highway in the Philippines is no stranger to landslides. Not to mention that it’s on the side of mountains with drops that reach 1,000 feet deep with no guardrail.
Barton Highway
Australia is home to the dangerous Barton Highway. In the last two decades, there have been 11 deaths and more than 100 injuries.
Brisbane Valley Highway
This is the one stretch of highway that people are most likely to have a car accident in Australia. People are asking for $2 billion to make the road safer, we’ll see if it ever happens though.
D’Aguilar Highway
Another Australian highway has made the list! The D’Aguilar Highway was closed down for a while after an intense traffic accident. However, it is open now and known as one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
Gillies Highway
Gillies Highway in Australia has claimed the lives of many drivers and passengers, including six children. With over 200 corners and bends along this 20 kilometer highway, it is definitely one drivers should be prepared for.
Captain Cook Highway
While Captain Cook Highway in Australia is extremely dangerous, it is a popular road for tourists to drive on. We can only hope they know what they are getting into when they drive along this highway.
