An Unusual Sight
During breakfast one day, Laura was enjoying people watching at a local restaurant when she saw something shocking unfold before her eyes. As soon as she caught the waitress, she pulled out her phone.
A Hunch
Laura Wolf, a breakfast regular at a local Waffle House had a hunch about the young waitress. One morning, she was shocked at what she was doing to an elderly patron’s food.
Evoni Williams
Williams, 18 years old, had been a watress at Waffle House in Marque, Texas for a while. She had worked hard to put herself through school but failed to realize the far reaching reprecussions of her actions caught on camera.
Bustling
The morning of Evoni’s incident was a big morning: the restaurant was packed and she was struggling to keep orders. Fate was on her side that morning.
A Gentleman
During the morning, Laura caught sight of an elderly gentleman sitting at the breakfast counter. Little did she know, he was quite well known to the servers in town.
Distracted
Evoni was watching as the man whispered something to the waitress and she didn’t hear the cook calling her from the kitchen. The man, Adrien Christenson, had her full attention.
A Life Changing Conversation
Laura then noticed that he had an oxygen tube with a tank sitting at his side. She leaned closer to hear the words that would change her life forever. The chef still shouting her name, Evoni was only interested in what the old man had to say.
An Unexpected Move
Evoni continued to ignore the chef and other diners, transfixed on the old man. Eventually, Laura was shocked to see her pull the man’s plate of ham towards her and do something she had never seen before.
Furtive
Laura hadn’t heard what the man whispered to the waitress. By Evoni’s reaction, she could tell something huge had happened. She looked triumphant and slightly fearful, focusing on her work once again. Laura began to video the spectacle…

Laura captured evidence of what happened, making Evoni famous. Although partially obscure, you can see clearly in the video Evoni’s elbows moving up and down hurriedly.
A Smile
The man continued to sit peacefully. He watched Evoni in anticipation and was served his plate once again. Evoni’s work was done and Laura saw her crack a smile as he picked up his fork.
Showing The World
Laura then heard the man speak to Evoni which made her tear up. She took a clear picture after the fact and posted the status update. At that point, Evoni was famous.
CCTV
Evoni was oblivious to the fact that she was being watched and videod by Laura and others at the restaurant that morning. The CCTV report that when Evoni was finished with her work, Adrien apologetically said “My hands don’t work too good…”.
A Helping Hand
Laura had heard the man say the heartbreaking words just before Evoni cut up the man’s food for him. This kind gesture filled him with such emotion she just had to share.
Karma
Within a few days, the post received 99,000 likes and 47,000 shares. Evoni was rewarded by her kindness with more than this though.
Recognition
With the exposure, Evoni caught much attention in the days to follow her act of kindness. The Mayor of the little down of La Marque repaid her in a huge way.
A Reward
Evoni was gifted $16,000 from Texas State University so she could begin attending classes. She broke down in tears when she received the gift.
A Small Gesture
Naturally, Evoni’s coworkers and manager were thrilled. Her small gesture made all the difference for customer Adrien whose health had recently deteriorated.
Mr. Karaoke
Adrien’s nickname in town was “Mr. Karaoke” for his love of karaoke in local restaurants. His muscle weakness in his old age had become a niusance that Evoni helped relieve that fine morning.
Thankful
Evoni reports that she didn’t think twice about helping Adrien, despite her cook calling her to attend to other customers. Adrien was very grateful for her help.
Touched
Adrien reports that he was “touched” by Evoni’s willingness to help an elderly customer. She set her other duties aside on the busy morning to attend to a small but important matter.
More Attention
The Mayor, Bobby Hocking, said he was quickly made aware the of the situation and he wanted to showcase the example of kindness in the town.
Evoni Williams Day
The Mayor was so touched, in fact, that he declared that in La Marque in March 8th, it would be “Evoni Williams Day”.
Following Her Dreams
Of course, Evoni was afforded a new opportunity for secondary education at Texas Southern University. She was heralded for her character which they look for in students.
