Maintenance involves more than simply repairing faulty equipment. Backlog of Maintenance Work

Maintenance backlog refers to the volume of pending work that has not yet been completed. Although a certain amount of backlog is normal, too much can be a warning sign for problems.

An increasing backlog can suggest inadequate staff, poor planning, or more machinery problems. Over time, it could result in deferred maintenance and breakdowns.

Using KPIs to Drive Better Decisions

KPI tracking will be pointless without the use of the results for making necessary changes. The managers responsible for maintenance must frequently evaluate the metrics and find patterns.

For instance, if MTTR grows, more training or increased availability of spare parts is needed. If the number of preventive maintenance tasks decreases, there are problems with scheduling or available resources.
