Five Signs – When You Should Go for Your Car Oil Change

Drivers know their vehicles better than anyone. They understand its needs and how proper maintenance can do wonders in ensuring the long-term health of their vehicles. Oil change is also one of the major needs of your vehicle.

While following the recommended maintenance schedule can help to ensure the best performance of your car, keeping an eye on the signs for oil change also holds great importance.

If you are not sure about when to go for an oil change, here are some signs to keep in mind.

Check the Oil Change Light

One of the most important signs that your car needs an oil change will not be hard to see. It is because your car will speak for this need by itself. A need for an oil change will be reflected by the relevant oil illuminating.

As a responsible car owner, make sure that you do not ignore these signs. Otherwise, you may be risking damaging your engine due to a lack of lubrication.

Listen for Unusual Noises

Your engine oil plays an important role in maintaining the performance of your car. Engine oil is a protective layer between the engine parts. Due to its lubricating properties, it ensures that your car’s engine is quiet.

One of the major signs that you should seek an oil change near me is if your engine is making unusual noises. These noises represent that your engine oil is not doing its job properly. Taking timely action can protect your car from further damage.

Look Out for Dirty Oil

After a fresh oil change, you will notice that it is translucent in color. However, the color of your engine oil becomes darker as it gathers particles collected from the engine. While you may not be able to hear the change in the color of your engine oil, you can certainly see it.

Car owners are recommended to visually examine their engine oil at least once a month. Remove the dipstick and wipe it off before returning it to the oil tank. Do it for another time, and if you cannot see the dipstick through the oil, it is time for an oil change.

Notice Unusual Smells

Another sign that your car needs an oil change is the smell. You do not have to smell the bottom of your engine to figure out a problem. In reality, an oil leak can be recognized by the smell. Gas or exhaust fumes are a common sign of vehicles overheating.

If you smell exhaust fumes, it is best to schedule maintenance immediately to ensure that the overheating problem does not cause any further damage.

Look Out for Exhaust Smoke

Whenever you drive your car, you will surely see some vapor come out of your car’s tailpipe. You can consider everything to be fine if the smoke is translucent. However, changes in the smoke can indicate a need for an oil change.

You may have faulty engine parts or an oil leak if the smoke is blue or gray.
