The Humane Society of Greater Rochester does amazing work in the community. It has saved many animals and given them a new lease on life. When a 10-year old ginger cat arrived on the doorstep of a porch in Ontario, New York, the family knew exactly who to turn to in order to save the adorable boy’s life.
17. Happy Halloween
This 10-year old ginger cat is the quintessential orange cat. With his good looks and personality, there is nothing he can’t achieve. Of course, his origin story is a bit of a mystery. The cat showed up one day at a family’s house in Ontario, New York. But the family immediately noticed something strange – his paws were all tucked in underneath his body.
16. Buster the Cat
The family looked at the big guy closely. Soon, they realized he needed serious help. This boy – now named Buster the Cat – needed the assistance of rescue specialists at Lollypop Farm, at the Humane Society of Rochester.
15. Mystery Boy
Nobody knows how or why Buster showed up unannounced. Like many stray cats, it’s impossible to know if he always lived the hobo’s life, or whether he was dumped or lost by his owners. The stray cat arrived in late October, right before Halloween.
14. Ginger Man
Buster arrived on the front porch looking like an orange pumpkin. But he didn’t create a stir or hiss or claw. Instead, he hid his paws under his body, almost as if he was trying to protect them from harm. What was wrong?
13. Paw Problems
The woman who found him took a close look. She could see that he had injured his paws. She knew he needed to see a doctor. She took Buster to Lollypop Farm, at the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, where he could get immediate help.
12. Lollypop Farm
Lollypop Farm is an open-admission animal shelter, accepting every animal in need of help—regardless of age, health issues or injuries, behavioral problems, or aggression. In short, Lollypop Farm accepts everyone and takes care of the animals compassionately. They perform surgeries on animals big and small, from iguanas to goats.
11. Stressed Out
The team at Lollypop Farm evaluated Buster. He looked stressed out, although he tried to remain calm. His poor little paws were in incredible pain with every step. “Buster was suffering from plasmacytic pododermatitis – a condition that left his front paws raw and made walking very painful,” a spokesperson said.
10. Treatment Time
It was spa time for the painful feline. He was in for several weeks of daily treatments, during which the staff cleaned and dressed his paws. Although it hurt, the staff minimized irritation and Buster took it like a champ.
9. Purr Machine
Buster never complained about what was happening. He seems to know the team was there just to help him. He also struck up a good relationship with his caregiver, purring a storm whenever his bandages got changed.
8. Gentle and Affectionate
Lollypop Farm described Buster’s personality as “gentle and affectionate, and definitely a purrer. His paws are healing very nicely.” They put a pair of mittens on Buster’s front paws in order to protect them and help him heal up. Then one day, it was time for the mittens to come off!
7. Cone of Shame
The worst of it was over. “At this point in his healing process, Buster no longer had to wear his mittens constantly. He was wearing a cone so that he didn’t lick or bite his paws.” No animal enjoys being confined to a cone, but once again Buster was stoic.
6. Irritation
The only real issue Buster had with his treatment was with those dang mittens. “Buster did have a habit of removing his mittens, probably because his paws were itchy!”
5. The Big Day
Finally, the big day arrived: the day the cone would be removed. Buster was looking forward to being able to move comfortably again. And everyone at Lollypop Farm couldn’t wait to see his full orange-man self.
4. Optimism
On the day his cone came off, the shelter was optimistic about finding him a home. “His paws are feeling SO much better, and soon, he will be ready to find a family. He celebrated his cone coming off by getting a tuna treat, and lots and lots of pets from our staff.”
3. Love Muffin
The ginger man adored the attention and pets he received from caregivers. They all say he purrs like crazy whenever anyone looks inclined to give his head a scratch. What a sweet Halloween cat!
2. New Day
When Buster arrived, he was seriously worried and had no idea how to heal his paws. But the folks at Lollypop Farm had his back. It only took about two months to give him his sauve energy back. The healthy ginger cat is ready for more pets and a forever home. Just look at that wink. And guess what?
1. Adoption!
Buster got adopted. Not only are his paws healed and his pain gone, he is living the pampered lifestyle of a housecat. Buster still loves attention and is like a new cat.
