15. Too Good to Be True

Imagine owning your own island off the coast of Scotland. Sounds like living the dream right? An entire landmass to call your own with no one to bother you! Well, there’s one island on the market in Scotland that costs less than a two bedroom apartment…however no one wants to buy it.

14. The Island of Little Ross

In Scotland off the coast of Dumfries and Galloway is a tiny 29-acre island known as Little Ross. It can only be accessed by boat or helicopter. Certainly sounds like the perfect place to get away and enjoy maximum privacy don’t you think?

13. Cheaper than a Two-Bedroom

When the island was listed for sale, it was placed at a starting price of $430,000, which is roughly the same price to buy a 2-bedroom apartment in Edinburgh! While the lighthouse on the island wasn’t included, you would get a six-bedroom cottage, a courtyard and three barns (although they weren’t in the best shape).

12. A Dark History

As of now, no one has purchased the small island; however, its dark history may have something to do with it. Trust us when we say, this story is not for the faint of heart.

11. The Lighthouse Keepers

In the summer of 1960, lighthouse keepers Hugh Clark and Robert Dickson arrived on the island to take over for the full-time keeper who was going on vacation. This was long before the lighthouse became fully automated.

10. A Crazy Story

Unfortunately, this job would be the last for poor Hugh Clark and would create a windstorm of a news cycle in the coming months. You seriously won’t believe what happened.

9. A Doomed Arrival

A few weeks after arriving for duty, all seemed well. A young man named David Collin and his father decided to visit the island on a day trip. However, when they arrived on the island they realized something was amiss.

8. Abandoned and Alone

Collin and his father checked the lighthouse, but found it to be completely deserted. Searching around the island, they found no sign of Clark or Dickson anywhere.

7. Something was Wrong

According to Collin, he remembered feeling a deep-seated dread when they couldn’t find either of the lighthouse keepers and knew something had gone terribly wrong. We have to admit we’re getting the heebie jeebies just typing out this story.

6. A Growing Mystery

Collin and his father trekked from the lighthouse to the main cottage and found it to be empty as well. Collin’s father decided he would go inside and check the assistant lighthouse keeper’s house, telling his son to remain outside.

5. An Eerie Environment

The house was still with no signs of life when Collin’s father entered. Searching from room-to-room, he called out for Clark or Dickson, but no one responded. Where could they be? Is it possible they had quit their posts and not told anyone?

4. A Horrifying Discovery

Finally, he made it to the bedroom and was horrified to find the body of Clark. Covered in blood and with no signs of life, Clark’s body was sprawled on the bed next to piles of rope creating a harrowing scene. Who could have done this and where was Dickson?

3. The Manhunt

The murder led to a nationwide manhunt for Dickson and thankfully he was caught and convicted of the murder of Hugh Clark. He was originally sentenced to death by hanging, but it was changed to life in prison later. Dickson would commit suicide in prison two years after his conviction.

2. Changing with the Times

As time went on the lighthouse continued to be manned by workers. However, due to the isolation of the island and the dark history of its past, the lighthouse was eventually retrofitted with new tech to make it automatic.

1. Still for Sale

The island is still up for sale, and as of today there are still no offers to purchase it. We probably think the grisly murder has something to do with it. Can you imagine how easy it could be to be killed out there? No one would ever know. Personally, we think this island is better off not inhabited by anyone!
